The level design is bad and the amount of enemy stun-lock causes a lot of lame deaths, but after some time you'll learn the dodge windows and git gud. The fixes/changes added in SOTFS make this game feel great to play, but it doesn't fix everything that was wrong with the original. Damn whoever thought Pharros Lockstones were a good way to block off entire areas of the game. If you never played DS2 this is a must have for people who enjoy hard challenges on top of slower, more calculated play styles. If you played the original DS2 and will always hate it, I don't blame you in the slighest.

The story line, mechanics, lore and visuals is all here. This game is far more generous with item buffs/heals than 1 and 3 which I dislike but overlook, the placement changes really make this feel like a entirely different game and bridge the difficultly gap between 1 and 3.

I consider this the true DS 2, I will warn casual players and those of low skill to stay away from this version and DS 3. Despite some reveiwers suggesting DS 3 over DS 2 SotFS for a 'fair' challenge, thats a flat out lie in my opinion. The attacks are faster, window timing smaller, healing buffers limited to Estus and a few Spells/Infusions in DS3.
